Steelers Draft Review

April 29, 2013
By

The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting a little long in the tooth and the draft was their opportunity to find the Steelers of the future.  With each pick it seemed like the Steelers were trying to find replacements for some of the players no longer on the roster.  The problem is that many of those departed players will be tough to replace. With their first round pick the Steelers took Jarvis Jones, the linebacker from Georgia.   It was expected that the Steelers would be looking at him to replace James Harrison if he fell to their draft slot.  Whether Jones could…

Steelers Win Final Game To End Season At 8 – 8

December 30, 2012
By

The Pittsburgh Steelers were playing for self respect instead of preparing for the playoffs for the first time since 2009.  Their final game of the season was against one of their old rivals, the Cleveland Browns.   And in the end, the Steelers were able to pull out a 24 – 10 win. The season that started so well for the Steelers ended in the most unexpected of ways.  Steeler faithful are used to seeing their team going to the playoffs.   And few of them showed up to see their team in the season finale.  Those that were there saw Ben…

December 23, 2012

The Cincinnati Bengals had everything on the line against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  They could reach the playoffs again and knock out the Steelers at the same time.  The Steelers also had a lot to play for.  Their slim playoff hopes were hinging on a win and a lot of other things happening too.  In the end, a playoff spot was just too much to ask for as the Steelers lost 13 – 10 and were eliminated from playoff contention. A few weeks ago if anyone said that the Steelers were not going to make the playoffs, they would have been…

The Pittsburgh Steelers were in a tough spot going into Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.  They were fighting to hold on to an AFC Wild card playoff spot and fighting tooth and nail in a tight AFC North division.  They saw the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Denver Broncos and they knew that they needed a win.  The Steelers were also looking a 4 game stretch where they had lost 3 games.   The Steelers managed to keep this game close before an interception would seal a 27 – 24 Cowboys victory. The Cowboys jumped to a 10 – 0…

Big Ben Returns But Steelers Still Lose

December 10, 2012
By

When Ben Roethlisberger went down a few weeks ago, the Steelers knew that it would be tough to hold on until his return.  They managed to stay in the playoff hunt without him.  As he returned to face the San Diego Chargers, many expected an easy win for the Steelers.  But that easy win was not meant to be as the Steelers lost 34 – 24 to a team that everyone expected them to beat. After starting the season strong, the Chargers went into a downward spiral.  Meanwhile, the Steelers were beginning to look like a team ready for a…

Batch Helps Steelers Pull Out Big Win Against Ravens 23-20

Charlie Batch had a tall task in front of him Sunday afternoon.   He had to face the hated Baltimore Ravens and try to do the impossible.  Could he lead the Steelers to a win over the Ravens in Baltimore? Before the game, only Batch might have truly believed that he could.  But after the game, everyone believed.  Batch led the Steelers on a big drive in the 4th quarter to set up the field goal that would seal the 23 – 20 win. The Steelers trailed in this one almost the entire game.  But the Ravens didn’t play like a…

Steelers Lose Sloppy Game To Browns

November 26, 2012
By

Anyone that doubted how much Ben Roethlisberger means to the Pittsburgh Steelers should be a believer after Sunday’s game against their divisional rival, The Cleveland Browns.   Charlie Batch started the game in place of the injured Roethlisberger and his injured backup Byron Leftwich.  And the result was not pretty at all.   The Steelers turned the ball over on almost every possession and looked nothing like the team that Steelers faithful are used to seeing.  When the final gun mercifully sounded, the final score would show the Browns winning 20 – 14.  But the game was not that close at all.…

By

Fans wondered how last week’s injury to starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would affect the team going into one of the biggest games of the season.  Sunday night, the fan got a glimpse into life without “Big Ben”.  And it didn’t look good.  Backup quarterback Byron Leftwich started off great but went downhill after that and the offense just couldn’t recover.  The 13 – 10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens was just painful to watch if you were a Steelers fan. Steelers vs. Ravens is one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports and each game is always a defensive…

Steelers edge Chiefs in OT but lose Roethlisberger

The Kansas City Chiefs went into Pittsburgh looking to upset the Steelers and make history.  It’s been over 20 years since the Steelers have lost a Monday Night game at home.   But for a large portion of this game, that win streak was in doubt.  The game would have to go into overtime before the Steelers could escape with a 16 – 13 win.  But the Steeler faithful have little to celebrate.  Because of a right shoulder injury, the Steelers lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for most of the second half and overtime.  And depending on the severity of the injury,…

Steelers comeback on the Giants

November 4, 2012
By

It’s been 4 years since the New York Giants met the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular season.  The Giants were victorious in that game after Eli Manning led them to a comeback win.  On this day, it was Ben Roethlisberger leading his team to a comeback win.   The Steelers overcame an emotional Giants team to win 24-20 and take their record to 5-3. The travel changes necessitated by the after effects of Hurricane Sandy might have played a part in how the Steelers opened this game.  They were slow and sloppy at times and a few unfavorable (and questionable) calls…

Big Ben carves up Redskins defense in win

October 28, 2012
By

In Pittsburgh, it was a battle between one of the NFL’s current franchise quarterbacks and one of the future’s franchise quarterbacks.   The Steelers have only lost one of their last 15 games against a rookie quarterback and they continued that domination today against Robert Griffin III.  When it was over, the Pittsburgh Steelers would add another victory over an NFC opponent at home by a 27 -12 margin. Both quarterbacks were expected to thrive against defenses that were depleted by injuries.  But Ben Roethlisberger had the better day.  Roethlisberger was 24 of 33 for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The…
